After prague became touted as the hippest place in Europe just a few short years after the "Velvet Revolution", there was only one bar that summed up the easygoing hedonism of the new-look Czech capital.

Wheter Prague is really the new "Left Bank" of the 90's or more like a European version of Katandu,Jo's Bar is tucked into a corner of one Mala Strana's most imposing squares directly under the shadow of St.Nicholas's church and just 100 meters in a straight line from the Charles Bridge. Originally crammed into two finger-shaped bars, and complemented by a large summer pavement in the street outside , it now extends undeground into a huge old cellar typical of Prague.

The beer is cold and certainly among the cheapest in this part of town. And unlike newer rivals , Jo's Bar has the feel of a place that has its finger on the pulse of Prague. Some longterm foreign residents might go even furher and say that Jo's is at its heart.
